BO report: Finding Dory swims well clear of Warcraft, Me Before You

Pixar s "Finding Dory" has made box office history, industry data showed Monday, taking in the biggest ever opening weekend revenue for an animated movie. Yet it is a far different matter at the box office, as the sequel not only almost doubled the opening weekend of Nemo but shattered the all-time opening weekend record for an animated movie.

Box Office Mojo revealed that Finding Dory opened to $136.18 million at the domestic box office and another $50 million worldwide as it opened in 32 percent of the marketplace.

In "Finding Nemo", Dory helped the clownfish Marlin (Albert Brooks) look for his son. The Kevin Hart and Dwayne Johnson buddy comedy "Central Intelligence" finished in second place over the weekend with $34.5 million.

Walt Disney Co.'s (NYSE:DIS) long-awaited sequel, "Finding Dory", hit the theaters this weekend.

The lead-up to the release to Finding Dory has been long and drawn out but it's finally here and it's breaking records already!

"The thought was: 'Could this be the movie to eclipse Toy Story 3's opening - not: 'Could it become the biggest animated opening of all time?'" said Paul Dergarabedian of comScore, which tracks box office performance.

The critics are definitely having a splashing time with Dory too - audiences at CinemaScore awarded the animation an A, while RottenTomatoes gathered a 95% positive critical rating.

James Wan's horror flick The Conjuring 2 fell 42 per cent in its second week, bringing its total gross to $7.2 million.

"That's really a testament to this being a picture for everyone - not just for families", Hollis said. Now You See Me 2 grossed $9.7 million and Warcraft brought in $6.5 million.
