Former Alcorn State WR Tollette killed in New Orleans

The Southwestern Athletic Conference mourns the loss of former Alcorn State University receiver Tollete "Tonka" George, who was shot to death in his hometown of New Orleans (Algiers) late Friday night (June 24).

George reportedly lived near where the shooting took place in Algiers.

For his Alcorn career, George started 36 games and caught 102 passes for 1,1225 yards and nine touchdowns.

George played for five years at Alcorn State and led the team in receptions with 52 that totaled 637 yards.

The incident occurred at the intersection of Lauradale and Vespasian Streets.

When officers arrived, they discovered an unidentified male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds lying in the street.
