One Winner In Powerball

The sole winning ticket worth an estimated $429.6 million in last night's POWERBALL drawing was sold in Mercer County, New Jersey.

One lucky victor in New Jersey is sitting on a lottery ticket worth $430 million dollars, the seventh largest prize in Powerball history.

The winning Powerball numbers were 5-25-26-44-66 and the Powerball number was 9.

While this jackpot is nothing to turn your nose up at, it pales in comparison to the $1.6 billion Powerball prize shared by three winning lottery ticketholders in January, the largest ever jackpot draw in the world.

It is not the first time Powerball luck has struck in New Jersey.

Kelly Cripe, a Texas-based lottery spokeswoman, said a sudden surge in late ticket-buying on Saturday increased the jackpot by some $15 million to an estimated $429.6 million.

Powerball is played in 44 states, as well as the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands.

The Mega Millions jackpot has also been increasing over the past two months, but it has not yet reached the same payout level as the current Powerball purse.

Saturday's Lottery victor will receive $284.1 million if they choose a one-time cash payout. The odds of winning are one in 292.2 million. Just keep this in mind: You have a much better chance of being killed in an attack by bees in your lifetime, at one in 64,706, than winning the Powerball jackpot. Drawings are held at 7:59 p.m. every Wednesday and Saturday. "But it was fun to think about cashing in the winning ticket". A further 1,939 players matched four of the main numbers, 236 of them had the Power Play option and they won $200 each while the remaining 1,703 players won $100 each.

Once the victor comes forward, they will be given the choice of receiving the money in a lump sum or an annual payment paid over 30 years. But don't forget about taxes, which will eat up about half of the cash winnings and a bit less of the annuity.
